Over night water levels came up at the Hwy. 96 Water tower and is continuing to maintain. All of the City of San Augustine customers on 96 should either have water with a few having water with low pressure depending on your location on our lines. Our high water users will be added back at a slow pace as to not deplete the progress at the tank. Those customers will regain water over over a period of time slowly; adding those customers back gradually allows the City to maintain levels at the tank.
Please remember we are under a Boil Water Notice. As soon as water samples are taken and test results are received the notice will be rescinded. With the timeframe we are looking at it could possibly Monday before this occurs.
Your patience and understanding has been greatly appreciated.
The repair has been completed and pumps have been turned back on. Your patience with this situation is still needed. Even though the repair is completed it will still take time for the Water tower to be filled.
In addition if you see any water leaks on the city lines please call to report. We are confident this was the issue but other problems could be showing up also now that the ground is thawing out.
Additional customers on the West side of town beginning with Willow Lane may have no water at this time. A valve was shut off in order to repair a leak discovered that may be a major reason of the Hwy. 96 Tower not maintaining water levels.
Your patience with us is greatly appreciated. Doing this will allow all of our customers to regain water service to their homes and businesses.
The City of San Augustine is under a boil water notice due to water leaks resulting after Winter Storm Fern. As leaks have been found they have either been repaired or they are on the list to be repaired. Our high usage have been cut off to help with getting the Hwy. 96 tank filled. Crews are working making adjustments to get water to our customers on the top side of hill on Hwy. 96. As new information is received updates will be made.
Superintendent Chris Anding for the Water Treatment Department has been monitoring water usage from the water tanks. At this time the Water Tower on 96 is showing that usage has increased. We have increased the pump rate to this tower but will be at the maximum amount that can be pumped. We have staff monitoring along with Chris for changes.
We are also asking residents to report any water leaks on the City's water system that may be showing up with temperatures warming up some late this afternoon. Please call City Hall at 936-275-2121 so preparation can be made for those repairs. If you have your own personal water cut off and discover you have busted pipes please cut the water off to help reduce usage also. If a personal cut off is not installed you can call City Hall and a tech will be out as soon as conditions allow them to travel safely to assist.
City Hall will open at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow Tuesday, January 27, 2026 to give staff traveling with longer distance time to arrive safely. As usual our emergency departments are available.
We are still encouraging our residents to stay warm and safe.

The City of San Augustine is weathering Winter Storm Fern. The Water Plant is still producing water; the Electrical Department has had a couple of outages and the Street Department has received no reports of road blocks by limbs or trees at this time. The first responders - San Augustine Police Department and Volunteer Fire - are in great condition as well.
If you must be out on the roads and streets please be safe.
The County's shelter is open per Judge Boyd.
Everyone stay warm and be careful.
The City of San Augustine’s Public Works Departments have taken steps to prepare for Winter Storm Fern predicted to impact our area the most severely with freezing temperatures around midnight on Saturday night to Sunday morning. We are following the National Weather Service Shreveport, LA (they monitor our area - ArkLaTex) and Texas Division of Emergency Management for updates. As updates are provided we are sharing those on the city’s Facebook page City of San Augustine. Winter Storm Fern information for the City of San Augustine will be put on our website page cityofsanaugustinetx.gov and shared on the Facebook page and Textmygov if you have signed up and by the extended map area included. To make sure you get updates go to our website chose to opt in for “SAGENERAL”, “SAWATER”, and “SAELECTRICAL” for the City of San Augustine.
With the expected weather conditions over the next few days there is a strong possibility of electrical outages with ice accumulation. The Electrical Department would like to remind you of the importance of reporting and respecting downed lines. ALWAYS assume the line is live! The Water department has taken precautions to maintain water to the water towers. Hopefully you have taken care of your pipes to help prevent busted pipes and outages on your side. Most of these will not show up until the freezing impact has passed and temperatures are warming.
Should you experience an electrical outage or if a tree or limb obstructs a street please call 936-275-2121 to report. Our call center is available to get that information reported to us. Please answer the necessary questions so the correct location is reported. Our departments are on call and will respond as safely and as soon as possible to restore the power and open road ways.
