Winter Storm Fern Updates

Winter Storm Fern Updates

8:08 pm 01/23/2026

The City of San Augustine has taken steps to prepare for Winter Storm Fern predicted to impact our area the most severe with freezing temperatures around midnight on Saturday night to Sunday morning. We are following the National Weather Service Shreveport, LA (they monitor our area - ArkLaTex) and Texas Division of Emergency Management for updates. As updates are provided we are sharing those on the city’s Facebook page City of San Augustine. Any extended outage information will be put on our website page cityofsanaugustinetx.gov and shared on the Facebook page and on Textmygov if you have signed up and by the extended map area included. To make sure you get updates go to our website chose to opt in for “SAGENERAL”, “SAWATER”, and “SAELECTRICAL” for the City of San Augustine.

With the expected weather conditions over the next few days there is a strong possibility of electrical outages with ice accumulation. Should you experience an electrical outage or if a tree or limb obstructs a street please call 936-275-2121 to report. Water departments have taken precautions to maintain water to the water towers. Hopefully you have taken care of pipes to prevent water outages. Most of these will not show up until the freezing impact has passed and temperatures are warming.

Our departments are on call and will respond as safely and as soon as possible to restore the power and open road ways.

You can see Judge Jeff Boyd’s post regarding the San Augustine County’s Storm Shelter if needed.
