FAQs

City Council

How can I address the City Council and/or place an item on a meeting agenda?

Any citizen may speak to the council. There are three ways this can happen:

  1. In each meeting there is time allocated for citizen presentations.  Anyone may speak to the council for up to 2 (two) minutes, but the item may not be discussed by the Council, and no action can be taken.  In other words there can be no vote on this type of presentation. Presentations will be recorded in the meeting minutes, but they will not be verbatim.
  2. Anyone can submit a written request to the City Manager for an item they want placed on an upcoming agenda.  Requests must be submitted by noon on Monday a week before the monthly meeting takes place. The city manager may at his/her discretion either place the item on the agenda or deny the request, but in either case the requestor will be notified, usually by e-mail. The preferred means of communication is e-mail (info@cityofsanaugustinetx.gov), but handwritten is acceptable to delivered to City Hall, Attn: City Manager.  Please include full name, address and contact information.
  3. Lastly, an item will be placed on the agenda at the request of any two sitting Alderman.  Again, requests must be submitted by noon on Monday a week before the monthly meeting takes place, so the Aldermen will need additional notice from a requestor.

Payments

What forms of payment does the City accept?

The City of San Augustine only accepts check, money order, ACH/Bank Transfer or credit card as forms of payment. If you must pay with cash, this can still be done at our business partner, BBVA Compass bank during banking hours. They are located at 123 S Harrison Street, San Augustine, TX, 75972. As long as you have your utility billing or a copy of it, you can pay your bill there either inside the bank or in one of the 4 drive through windows.

What if my utility payment due date falls on a weekend or a city holiday (non-business day)?

When a due date falls on a weekend or city holiday, the due date is automatically extended to the next business day.

Search Tips and Tricks

Do the search results include the contents of PDFs and other documents?

Yes.  The website indexes web pages as well as PDFs, Microsoft Office documents, and text documents.

If I search for a phrase (e.g. alarm permit), will the results only show exact matches?

No.  By default, the search results will show matches for any word within the phrase.  In this example, you would receive results for all web pages and documents that contained either the word alarm or the word permit or both.

In order to search on an exact phrase, enclose your search phrase in quotations.  The search results for "alarm permit" will show matches for that exact phrase.

Can I exclude a word from a search (e.g. all pages that have the word "alarm" but not the word "permit"?

Yes.   You can exclude words by using the minus sign (-).   In order to find the results of all pages that have alarm in the result but not permit, you would search for alarm -permit.

Sewer

Who do I ask about sewage disposal if I am not accessible to City Wastewater Collection?

If you are not on the wastewater collection system, check with the Angelina & Neches River Authority at 936.632.7795 or 800.282.5634.

On-Site Sewage Facilities (OSSF) are wastewater systems designed to treat and dispose of effluent on the same property that produces the wastewater. They are typically used in rural locations where public sewers are not available. Most on-site wastewater treatment systems are of the conventional type, consisting of a septic tank and a subsurface wastewater infiltration system (drain field); however, some soil types such as clay are inadequate for the proper absorption and treatment of wastewater. There are also other factors such as small lot size that can preclude installing a conventional system. For situations where a conventional system is unsuitable, there are aerobic systems. While a conventional system relies on soil absorption and natural processes in the environment to treat wastewater, an aerobic system treats the wastewater before it is released into the environment. An aerobic system is usually attached to a sprinkler system to dispose of the treated wastewater.
